As the story goes, Harriet Tubman said, "Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars...to change the world."
My daughter helped me make a couple decisions with this piece and she said, "Mom, it reminds me of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. Did you know she helped a lot of people gain their own freedom after she gained hers?"
She had no idea that's what I'd intended with this piece -- that I'd hoped there would be symbols of the journey and the spirit of Harriet Tubman as an "uplifter" into freedom. No person can hijack the colossal power within us. I truly hope my daughters choose to lead in their own way with strength that guides others to rise, grow, move forward together.
